Debbie Wylie established Little Angels in September 1999, after finding difficulty in securing high quality, teacher-led childcare for her son. Assembling a dedicated qualified team, she embarked on the journey that has seen more than 1,500 children (and their families) supported through their earliest years.
Milestones and achievements to date:
1999 July – Debbie and family move to Paradise Row in Cramlington Village
1999 Sept – Doors of Little Angels open for the first time, registered for 60 children.
1999 Dec – BBC Look North features Little Angels for its offer of Millennium Care
2000 – Extends care offered to 111 places to meet increased need
2001 – Ofsted inspection declares Little Angels ‘Good’ in all areas.
2001 – Little Angels takes on management of Hareside Out of School Club
2002 – Continues to expand with no advertising (despite Debbie and the manager both taking maternity leave!).
2002 – Develops own team-building programme (pilot used by NDNA)
2003 – Participates in Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative, undergoing six-month refurbishment and increasing capacity
2004 – Recruits qualified experienced teacher to take lead on curriculum
2004 – Achieves Investors in People
2004 – Awarded Edge award (national award for supporting practical training and development for young people)
2005 – Awarded ‘Outstanding’ in all areas during Ofsted inspection
2005 – Bid to deliver childcare/education at Fenham Children’s Centre, Newcastle
2006 – Little Angels at Fenham opens
2006- Little Angels at Fenham secures good Ofsted with outstanding nursery education
2006 – Hareside Out of School club receives good Ofsted with outstanding features.
2006 – Little Angels designated DCSF Children’s Centre
2006 – Achieves Healthy Schools Award.
2007 – Debbie takes six-month maternity leave to complete her family! Strong senior team lead care and education and develop new planning system to link with new Early Years Curriculum Framework
2007 – Senior management team presents new planning system to regional team of early years consultants at Hepscott Park
2008 – Debbie completes Ofsted inspection training.
2008 – Debbie and nursery teacher complete Early Years Professional status training (only north east setting to have three qualified Early Years Practitioners)
2008 – Debbie embarks on role as Early Years consultant at Northumberland County Council
2009 – Little Angels in Cramlington achieves second ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted
2009 – Little Angels achieves highest grading for Quality Assurance scheme
2009 – Little Angels achieves National Day Nursery Association Nursery of the Year award
2009 – Little Angels hosts network events for NCC, and welcomes around 40 other schools and settings to share practice, from Berwick to Leeds, from a range of PVI settings to maintained schools and nurseries and from managers and practitioners to early years consultants
2011 - Opens setting at Cramlington Village Primary School, the region's first "free school"
2013 - Little Angels opens nursery setting in Bedlington
